Hello Everyone!

We had a great presentation by Han Rasmussen (Ian’s dad) about traveling around the world looking at rocks.  Hans brought in some of his equipment and rock samples to share with the kids.  He also brought some rocks, hammers, and safety glasses and let the kids pound off thier own samples!  Super fun!  Thanks to the Rasmussens!  Check out the link (it should work now) to check out some pictures of the event.

Food Drive

November 11, 2009

Dear Parents, Families, and Friends of MIS,

This year, the middle school is participating in the Doubletree’s Community Drive to Fight World Hunger. We will be learning about hunger issues in our community and around the world through classroom lessons, guest speakers, community service field trips to the Poverello Center, and hosting a non perishable food drive. Students are also encouraged to combat the problem of food waste by cutting down on waste at home and in the classroom.

Food donations are critically important to our community, especially during the holiday season. Between today (November 11th) and December 18th (the last school day before winter break), we will be collecting non perishable food donations on the main floor of MIS, to the right of the main entrance. If possible, please donate canned, boxed, and bagged food items. Examples include canned vegetables, canned fruits, bags of flour, sugar, beans, boxes of pasta, bottles of sauces and juices, boxes of teas and hot chocolate packets, and cans and bags of coffee. Items will be donated to local food banks. We appreciate your help in alleviating hunger in Missoula!

Thank you very much,

Ms. Helena Koelle

Middle School Math/Science/Technology, Middle School Adviser

We have an exciting, but busy week coming up!  We had a picnic today to celebrate the end of our first unit: The Adventure of Super Foods.  Thank you to all the families who brought food!  Everything was delicious and the kids did a great job of explaining their foods.  Tuesday we will be carving pumpkins and baking the pumpkin seeds for a snack.  We will finish up this busy week with a Halloween party on Friday at 11am.  We can’t wait to see your kids’ costumes!  They are all pretty exctited!!

Look for more pictures on the “pictures” page.

Odds and Ends

  • Magazines: we will be doing several activities with our current unit that will require the kids to look for pictures of food in magazines. We are collecting food magazines or other magazines with lots of pictures of food.
  • Binders: please make sure you have brought in a three- ring binder and four dividers for your child. They will be used for your child’s portfolio for the year.
  • Extra Clothes: please remember to check your child’s extra clothes box to make sure they have extra (weather appropriate) clothing.
